Why Did the Gold Price Rise Today?
The All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association raised 24K gold by Rs2,800 to Rs440,636 per tola on Friday 16 October, after two days without a rise. The 10-gram rate went up Rs2,401 to Rs377,774. The association’s reference world price rose $28 to $4,181 an ounce.
The rise follows world gold’s recovery from its post-inflation dip. Gold fell to about $4,073 on Wednesday after US consumer prices rose 3.7% from a year earlier, then climbed back as US 10-year Treasury yields dropped to about 5.09%, a three-week low, and the dollar eased from an 18-month high.
A sharp sell-off in technology shares across Asia pushed investors towards safer assets, and markets cut the chance of a US interest rate rise at the 27–28 October Federal Reserve meeting to below 30% after some Fed officials said an immediate move might not be needed. Tension around the Strait of Hormuz also kept safe-haven demand alive.
Silver followed gold higher, rising Rs108 to Rs6,256 per tola after three days of losses.

International gold settled at $4,181 per ounce, up $28. At the interbank dollar rate of Rs277.02, that equals Rs434,333 per tola. The local Sarafa rate of Rs440,636 is Rs6,303 (1.5%) above that world-price conversion, a premium that reflects the cost of dollars and local demand.
