How We Calculate Gold Rates

Every price on this site comes from two published sources and a fixed set of formulas. This page explains both, so you can check any number yourself.

Our two data sources

1. The Sarafa rate. The daily 24K rate per tola and per 10 grams announced by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association in Karachi. This is the rate quoted by jewellers, newspapers and TV channels across Pakistan. The same announcement includes the silver rate.

2. The international conversion. The international spot price of gold (XAU/USD, per troy ounce) converted at the interbank US dollar to Pakistani rupee rate. It shows the world benchmark behind the local price.

The formulas

  • International price per tola = spot price per ounce × USD/PKR ÷ 31.1035 × 11.6638
  • Local premium = Sarafa 24K rate − international price per tola
  • Karat rates = 24K Sarafa rate × karat ÷ 24 (for example 22K = × 22/24)
  • Weights = rate per tola ÷ 11.6638 for one gram; ÷ 12 for one masha; ÷ 96 for one ratti

Results are rounded to the nearest rupee only at the final step.

Units we use

  • 1 tola = 11.6638 grams (3/8 of a troy ounce)
  • 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 grams
  • 1 masha = 1/12 tola ≈ 0.972 grams
  • 1 ratti = 1/96 tola ≈ 0.1215 grams

What our rates do not include

  • Making charges on new jewellery, which vary by design and shop
  • Kat deducted when you sell jewellery back
  • Stones, pearls and enamel, which are not gold
  • Taxes or dealer margins at individual shops
