Why Did the Gold Price Fall Today?
The All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association cut the 24K rate by Rs2,100 to Rs439,936 per tola on Monday, ending a three-day run of gains, as world gold slipped about $18 to $4,177 an ounce.
Internationally, traders took some profit after gold’s first weekly gain in three weeks. The US dollar is near its strongest level in about a year and a half, which makes gold dearer for buyers using other currencies.
Markets are waiting for US inflation (CPI) data on Wednesday 14 October. CME FedWatch shows about an 84% chance of another US interest rate rise by December; a cooler inflation reading would weaken that case and could support gold.
Silver eased Rs23 to Rs6,532 per tola, and the rupee was steady at about Rs277 per dollar.
International Gold Price and the Sarafa Premium
International gold settled at $4,177 per ounce, down $18. At the interbank dollar rate of Rs277.02, that equals Rs433,917 per tola. The local Sarafa rate of Rs439,936 is Rs6,019 (1.4%) above that world-price conversion, a premium that reflects the cost of dollars and local demand.
