Why Did the Gold Price Rise Today?
The All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association raised the 24K rate by Rs1,100 to Rs442,036 per tola on Saturday, a third straight daily gain, after world gold rose about $11 to $4,195 an ounce.
Gold finished last week with its first weekly gain in three weeks. Long-term US Treasury yields eased from their midweek highs, the dollar’s rally paused, and Chinese buyers returned after the Golden Week holiday.
Since Wednesday’s low of Rs434,436, the 24K rate has recovered Rs7,600 per tola. Silver also rose, by Rs43 to Rs6,555 per tola.
The rupee stayed near Rs277 per dollar, so the change came from the world price.
International Gold Price and the Sarafa Premium
International gold settled at $4,195 per ounce, up $11. At the interbank dollar rate of Rs277.02, that equals Rs435,787 per tola. The local Sarafa rate of Rs442,036 is Rs6,249 (1.4%) above that world-price conversion, a premium that reflects the cost of dollars and local demand.
